About the project

South Moravian Photo Workshop was established in 2008 and it is primarily going to provide education in the field of applied and creative photography. The association was established by Michaela Cibulkova – a photographer and businesswomen living in Lednice and Prague, Antonin Kratochvil – world’s war-photographer and photojournalist living in New York, and recognized fashion photographer Jiri Turek.

The purpose of the association is also to promote South Moravia, and that directly by the form of photographs that will be developed during the photographic workshops. Planed are also exhibitions, seminars, public photographic projections, publications and arranging cultural events focusing on maintaining and developing local folklore and traditions.

Today’s times are literally dependent on visual communication and help of visual outputs. We want to use photography for the participants of the workshop and for the visitors of the Lednice-Valtice area to draw near an attractive region in all the details and also to present it from different angle. Our aim is to reveal to visitors what is hidden behind the skyline of Lednice castle, in the shadow of vineyards and in the gloom of wine cellars.

Participants are going to be divided into five thematic workshops, while in one group there should not be more than 12 students, in order not to lower the quality of lectures and to allow individual approach to the needs of every student. The training is leaded by professional photographers, which have many years of pedagogic experience in significant domestic and world universities and photoworkshops.

In every workshop, two places are going to be reserved for talented young high school or university student with focus on photography. The requirements to be allowed onto the shortlist are to send the application form to particular workshop, with the overview of past work and Curriculum Vitae. Consequently, a commission is going to make the shortlist and the winner is going to be chosen in the form of draw under the supervision of a notary.

The final exhibition of the best students’ works is going to be in the form of outside installation in Lednice Park and other outside public places in Lednice.
